Learn 2 Ride

Peddling can be a breeze with the right guidance! Adapt and Learn is thrilled to offer a 4 session program that supports every child’s biking journey. From selecting the right bike to mastering balance and coordination, our experts are here to ensure a smooth ride. Join us for sessions filled with fun, learning, and the joy of achievement.

Our Learn 2 Ride Program is specifically tailored for each client by considering their individual development levels and functional needs. Across the four days, progressively achievable goals will be set to create a fun, safe learning environment and gradually build confidence on the bike.

Each of the 4 sessions will be 30 minutes and will begin with activities/exercises that are focused on developing the child’s foundational strength, motor planning ability and overall balance – essential components for bike riding. Specific skills of pedaling, steering, braking and stability will be progressively added into each session.

Participants must bring their own bike, helmet and safety equipment. It is essential for each child to have their own bike and helmet, so they can learn on their own equipment and continue practicing after the program.

We strongly encourage practicing at home between sessions as well, to maximise the benefit of the program.

Safety first

Ensure your child has a properly fitting helmet that provides maximum protection without obstructing their vision. We'll guide you on how to adjust the helmet for a perfect fit.

Balance is key

We'll encourage your child to practice standing on one leg and engage in fun activities that promote balance. Starting with a balance bike or removing the pedals from their bike can also help them develop their skills.

Mastering coordination

Our "Go, Go, Stop" game will help your child coordinate their newfound balance skills with using the brakes. We'll also create obstacle courses and activities that enhance their coordination abilities.

Building strength

We'll guide your child through exercises that strengthen their leg and core muscles, such as running, jumping, and climbing. Playground equipment can be a great tool for developing these skills

Enabling Participation

From school tasks to leisure activities, occupational therapy enables people, especially kids, to be active participants in their communities.

If you’re concerned about your child’s progress or unsure about the right bike for their needs, our team of specialized therapists is here to lend a helping hand. At Adapt and Learn, we have extensive experience in helping children learn to ride a bike, and we’re ready to support your child on their biking journey.

Farm Visits

The bond between humans and animals dates back thousands of years. Animals play a significant part in therapy. When you’ve had a bad day, there’s nothing to cheer you up quite like a wet nose or a furry snuggle. Animal-assisted therapy has proven medical benefits.

Our two-hour farm trips are a delightful way to connect with nature. Your child will spend a day meeting miniature donkeys, feeding goats, and learning about award-winning cattle. Beyond just fun, however, it’s a chance to boost confidence and learn about food production in a serene environment.

This Farm Visits Program is an innovative service that delivers a fully customisable experience to help NDIS participants meet their goals in a fun, caring environment.

Our aim is to assist participants with ongoing capacity building, focused on self-determination skills, and development of independence. Specifically, we work with clients to achieve their specific goals and outcomes.

Our key staff are experienced with delivering special needs’ education and we tailor each participant’s visit to help them develop life-skills and practical hands-on skills like feeding animals and simple task responsibilities, in a friendly, affirming, and educational based environment.

Participants will be moving around on the farm, so come prepared with hats, sunscreen, closed in shoes, long pants if doing horse riding, and enough drinking water (as this is not provided).

The farm is disabled and wheelchair friendly. As an example, the main walking area is reasonably flat, thus suitable for most wheelchairs.

How do we cater to your child's needs?

We understand that each child is unique, and we pride ourselves on our adaptable and individualised approach to their care.
