Disability comes with some big physical, emotional, and social challenges. Adapt and Learn is designed to give your child the tools they need to reach their full potential and live a more independent and fulfilling life.

In-clinic & community based therapy makes accessing care easy

Adapt and Learn was founded by parents who have autistic children. We support children with all different disabilities and needs, and our background means we’ve been where you are. Now, we’re making accessing support as simple as it should be.

State-of-the-art sensory equipment for play-based support

Teaming up with Adapt and Learn for your child’s support gains them access to specialist, state-of-the-art sensory equipment. Sensory play is proven to have a highly beneficial impact in therapy sessions, and particularly assists with proprioceptive function — the body’s ability to sense movement, action, and location.

It’s not just an amazing aid in the therapy process, but it’s something the kids love, making these therapy sessions a win for both you and your child.

Here's how you can get started

Preparing your child for their next step

Parents of children with any disability will know that next steps and life transitions are big, big things in your little one’s world. Adapt and Learn has a multidisciplinary team of occupational therapists, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, and more who are here to help your little one take their next step – whether that’s a new school grade or adulthood.

Why parents trust Adapt and Learn

Based on lived experience

Our founders, Luke and Amy, built this organisation on lived experience. With two autistic children, they'd had trouble accessing the right support and therapy — so they decided to create it.

We support parents, too

As the parent of a child with a disability, you need support too. There are plenty of stressful moments and feelings. We offer support and community to all parents here.

Commitment to continuity of care

We have a multidisciplinary team, which means your child will have access to a variety of therapy types to support their development. But we also value continuity of care and won't pass your child between specialists.

Making therapy as accessible as it should be

It shouldn't be so hard to find and access therapy for your child. We're making it simple with therapy here in our centre — or, we can bring it directly to your home.

Care for your child’s safest environment

The safest environment for your little one varies from child to child. We'll take a personal approach and help create a space where your child feels comfortable and secure for every session.

A personal approach

Every child is different, with different feelings, reactions, and preferences. We take a personal approach, working to your child's special interests and strengths.

We're a registered NDIS provider

You can bring your NDIS plan, but it’s not essential.

We’re a registered NDIS provider and can work with your child in accordance with their NDIS plan. However, you don’t need to have an NDIS plan to access our services.

Do you have a question about NDIS plans or how our fee structure works? Feel free to call us or request a callback to chat it through.

We decided to create the support we wish we had

Adapt and Learn was created by Luke and Amy Lloyd — parents of autistic children who needed support and realised our region was really lacking. It was hard to find help, and when we did, it was hard to get there, time-consuming, and just another stressor in our lives.

That’s why Adapt and Learn was created — the realisation that our little ones needed more, and so did so many other little ones across South East Queensland.

QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many questions that come up for parents in this stage of seeking support. We hope you can find your answer below.

From the time you enquire, we’ll be in touch with you within one business day. From there, how soon you get in will depend on our availability. You’re always welcome to give us a call and we can give you some indicative timing.

We offer a variety of therapies to support your child, and the therapies you access can be personalised to the support your child’s needs. At this stage, we provide occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological assessments and support, physiotherapy, and school tutoring.

Yes, we do. With a variety of therapies and supports available, we’re able to take a personal approach with each child to meet their specific needs.

Yes, we sure are. If you have an NDIS plan, you can access our support as part of your NDIS funding. If you don’t have an NDIS plan, we can still support you, or we can work with you to help you access this support you need.

Our occupational therapy service is highly personalised. After an initial assessment with a passionate occupational therapist from our friendly team, we’ll develop a customised plan that targets your child’s specific challenges and goals. This plan may include skill development exercises, the use of assistive technology, and strategies to enhance daily living activities. We focus on meaningful activities that motivate your child and apply our therapy in contexts that are relevant to them, ensuring that each session contributes to their progress and helps them gain or regain independence.

Telehealth services have become an integral part of our approach, offering flexibility and accessibility to families across the areas we offer our services to. For occupational therapy, telehealth might include virtual assessments where our therapists observe your child’s abilities through video calls, guided therapy sessions where we teach and monitor exercises or strategies in real-time, and parent consultations to provide advice and support. These services ensure continuous care and support, especially for families who can’t always make it to our centre due to distance or other constraints. Our use of telehealth is guided by best practices to ensure your child receives quality care that fits into your family’s lifestyle.

The number of sessions required varies significantly from one child to another, depending on the nature and complexity of their needs. After our initial assessment, we will discuss a proposed therapy plan that includes an estimate of how many sessions may be beneficial. This plan is flexible and will be reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet your child’s evolving needs. Our goal is always to achieve meaningful progress, and we are committed to working collaboratively with you to determine the best path forward for your child.

Continuity of care is paramount in our services. We achieve this by maintaining a consistent therapy team for your child, ensuring that the therapists working with them develop a deep understanding of their needs and progress. Our multidisciplinary team meets regularly to discuss each child’s development, allowing for integrated care that addresses all aspects of your child’s well-being. We also keep detailed records of therapy sessions and progress, which are reviewed and adjusted as needed to ensure that your child is always moving toward their goals.

If your question is still unanswered, you can always contact our friendly team by phone or by filling in our contact form.
